How many students can be involved
in a workshop?
A maximum of 25 students per session.
Can we use different students in the second session of a
day?
Yes, for narrative writing
workshops only. In that case, both groups would come
together in the third session to read their work and/or
storyboard.
Do you do boys only groups?
Definitely.
Do you have public liability insurance?
Yes, $20million.
Where does filming take place?
For occupational health and safety reasons, as well as
time issues, films are shot entirely within schools
unless prior arrangements have been made for nearby
accessible and safe locations.
How long do films take?
Film-making workshops can
sometimes be completed within a day under special
circumstances but usually films take 2 days from the
writing phase to the final "cut!".
Who owns copyright?
Schools own the copyright to
completed films, and as such can usually enter them in
film festivals.
However certain elements within
films may have only been "licensed" for use. An example
of this would be the music in a short film. The school
does not own the music, but they are licensed to use it
within a short film.
Can we select music for the films?
Generally no. Schools are entitled
to use copyrighted material for educational purposes
within an educational setting, but the reach of short
films today with modern technology is such that a school
cannot guarantee its films will only be shown within an
APRA approved environment (eg; a school).
Paul Stafford Literacy uses
royalty free music from our special collection. We are
licensed to use this music in films.
How many copies do we get, can we
burn more copies?
3, and yes.
We have filming equipment and
editing software, but aren’t confident using it, can you
show us how to use it?
We can arrange special workshops at
standard rates to incorporate equipment and software
education.
