Inoculate kids against the
horrors of NAPLAN!
Narratives are seemingly the most difficult text type
for students (especially boys) to master. Paul
Stafford’s writing workshops take the class through the
entire process from brain storming ideas, choosing
genres, creating characters, through to the dreaded
rewrite and final reading.
Using only your students’ input and ideas the workshops
produce original narratives which will not entertain the
class but boost the students’ sense of accomplishment,
enthusiasm, confidence and competence. Using their ideas
only means they own the process, and careful, accessible
scaffolding of each stage ensures even the most reticent
student keeps up, producing writing they’ll be proud of.
Paul Stafford’s teenage fiction books provide a jumping
off point for discussions on social purpose outcomes of
writing and writing as a vocational outcome in the
modern entertainment industry.
